NOTE:According to George Shirk in his book "Oklahoma Place Names," I quote
"ATWOOD, formerly Newburg. In Hughes County, 5 miles west of Calvin.
Post office name changed to Atwood, December 3, 1909. Named for C.C. Atwood, townsite owner." From the 1910 (April 15 )Hughes County Oklahoma census Newburg township S.D. #4, E.D.111 Sheet15A Ancestry.com Image 29 (of 30).(All four listed as Indian) From the 1920 (Feb.2) census Calvin, Hughes county,dis.62 Oklahoma. Ancestry.com image #14 Names are added for clarification. FROM the April 1930 census Grandview Township Caddo County District 30 Ancestry.com image #15 (near Anadarko Oklahoma). The family was still together in the same area.

  Here are some historical notations I have collected from many sources including the web,
relatives and friends.
  First of all is the fact that Hamlet Brown "Scott" Barron was married before his marriage to
Ma Barron. Here is a quote from THIS page.
 "Barron, Hamlet , 21 , Durant , C.N., I.T., to Sharp, Cassie R. , 15 , Durant , 5 May 1901";
This was confirmed in a conversation I had with Karr Barron (96 years old)on(8/06/2003). He told me that Cassie had died and that Scott married ma Barron after that. Another quote: (note the spelling from this document) " Barron, H. , 24 , Calvin , C.N., I.T., to Breninger, Burthie , 19 , Calvin , 11 Nov 1906" ** Information provided to me by Theron Palmer about Hamlet "Scott" Barron's father was derived from THIS page where he is listed as "Hambrick Barron who moved to Oklahoma" son of "Ronchali Cumbe Barron, b August 3, 1852 in Waco, Texas — married Pocohuntas Reese." The death of Hamlett Brown Barron as recorded in the Stockton CA Newspaper.
(Thank you Shirley) Headline:"PEDESTRIAN IS KILLED BY AUTO
Driver Booked for Manslaughter"

Struck by the car of a hit-run driver at Main and Garden shortly after 8 p. m. yesterday, Hamlet B. Barron, 64, 600 South Olive, was instantly killed, his body carried 150 feet from the scene of the impact by, the speeding car, according to four eyewitnesses. Driver of the car, Elmer Nelson Porter, 42, 253 S. Sinclair, emploee on Rough and Ready Island, sped east on Main from the scene of the accident, witnesses reported, his car followed by that driven by Nello Canelini, 2243 E. Market, one of the witnesses. After several blocks of fast driving, Porter returned to the scene where he told California Highway patrolman Emil Denuit that he "got scared and knew I did wrong." Canelini's vehicle was folowing the Porter car until he returned, police reported.
Canelini and three other eyewitnesses, Alfred Suther, River-view Housing, bus driver, and Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Duke, 102 South Wilson Way, told Denuit that Porter's car had just passed Canelini's vehicle and was approximately six feet on the wrong side of the white line. The pedestrian, Barron, was in the crosswalk at the time he was struck, the witnesses declared. Suther's bus and the Duke car were parked near he intersection at the time of the accident.
Porter was booked at county jail for manslaughter at the order of Assistant District Attorney Robert P. Sullivan.
Barron's body was removed to the chapel of B. C. Wallace & Son, where funeral arrangements are pending.
NOTE* The reason I post this article is because few of my family knew the exact details of this accident. * This is a very rough draft and I have started it on this date 8/01/2003. Please email me if you have more information (dates names ect.)or can correct my spelling errors and/or add dates and names.
