Barron Family .............................................. Back to BARRON home page
Blevins Texas
A book was published in the 1990s by Betty Duke (a descendant of
both J.L.Courtney and T.H.Barron) using this diary as part of the text. I
thank her here for a copy of that book. Max G. Courtney had given her a copy and she used it without permission. This document is public domain and he intended for it to be after
he had edited it for personal reasons.
Back in 2003 I had received his permission to use it here on our page. Now
here in October 2006 I have received permission to use it again. I have spent
some time transcribing a transcribed and edited work and I have done so to
show you the life and times of both the Barron, Courtney and so many other
families around Blevins Texas in the early 1870s. I submit this work with
no other purpose in mind.
James L. Courtney

Thomas Hudson Barron history notes
This
section of our page has been created in order to explain some factors in the
collection of information about the descendants of Thomas Hudson Barron. Over
the past few years I have conversed with many people over the Telephone, email,
postal service and most pleasant of all, in person.
I cannot list list all of the good folks but here are a
few in no specific order:
Theron Palmer - Lena (Stone) Criswell - Calvin Whatley - B.C.Courtney- Max
Courtney-Linda Lyerly- Jerry Mills- Calvert Barron- Thomas Karr Barron- Andrew
and Randy Barron- Richard (and Pauline) Barron- Will Huber- James L.Courtney
(diary).
In approximately 1986 Max Courtney transcribed a diary written
by James L. Courtney (he owns the original). This diary was transcribed by
Max in order that his family and the public could enjoy the history of Blevins
Texas from the year 1871 to 1876. I have spent countless hours reading this
diary and absorbing every word in order to place myself in those days and
times. I list every person mentioned and found them in census reports and
have tried to place them on a map.
Recently (Aug. 12th through Aug. 15th 2004) during the Barron
Family reunion I had the wonderful experience of walking on what was the Thomas
Hudson Barron land with both B.C. Courtney (sat on James L.Courtney's lap
and lived on the land) and Will Huber (owns the land now). Both of these wonderful
gentlemen shared their lives and times with me and my wife.

This page will be updated as I have time in the future. So
far I have determined the size and location of the Barron land, who lived where
in the 1800s (thanks to B.C. Courtney and Will Huber) and how life was back
then.
